Dr. Kristin Wingfield is a primary-care sports medicine specialist, board certified through the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine.
Dr. Wingfield is also the team physician for the Canadian Alpine Ski Team, the Peanut Butter Twenty Twelve Women’s Cycling Team, and Dominican University in San Rafael, California. She also cares for the dancers of the San Francisco Ballet School and the acrobats of Cirque du Soleil when they are on tour in San Francisco. In February 2010 she worked in the medical clinic at the Olympic games in Whistler, British Columbia, providing care to athletes competing there.
No stranger to elite competition herself, Dr. Wingfield was a gymnast on the Canadian national team from 1983 to 1988. When an injury kept her from participating in the 1988 Olympics, she switched sports, to springboard diving, in which she competed at a national level. She put medical school on hold for two years to perform with Cirque du Soleil as an acrobat in "Mystere" in Las Vegas. In 2003, Dr. Wingfield moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to complete her fellowship in sports medicine at Stanford University.
Among Dr. Wingfield's patients are weekend warriors and other active people, recreational to elite athletes, and dancers, and she sees all age groups, from children to masters. As well, Dr. Wingfield diagnoses and treats all types of athletic injuries, whether acute or from overuse, and all types of medical conditions, including concussions, exercise-induced broncho-constriction, doping issues and testing, eating disorders, exercise prescription, injury prevention, and so on.
